Nagpur: In a continued crackdown against narcotics under the “Operation Thunder – Let Us Unite to Build a Drug-Free Society” campaign launched by Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Bhandewadi Police arrested a man allegedly found in possession of MD (Mephedrone) powder and seized property worth ₹5.19 lakh.
According to police, between 8:15 pm and 10:50 pm on June 22, an investigation team from Bhandewadi Police Station was conducting patrol operations as part of the anti-drug week campaign. Acting on specific intelligence, officers laid surveillance near Saras Bar and Restaurant on Bidgaon–Tarodi Road.
Police stopped a Maruti Suzuki WagonR (MH-49-BZ-2830) and questioned the driver, who identified himself as Sandeep Gulabrao Harode (36), resident of Plot No. 40, Dhanlaxmi Society, Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Bhandewadi, Nagpur.
Following procedures prescribed under the NDPS Act, police searched the accused and the vehicle in the presence of witnesses and recovered 4.89 grams of MD powder packed in a zip-lock pouch.
During the operation, police seized:
- 4.89 grams of MD powder
- Cash of ₹120
- One mobile phone
- Maruti Suzuki WagonR car
The total value of seized material is estimated at ₹5,19,920.
Police said the accused was allegedly carrying the narcotic substance for sale and personal financial gain.
A case has been registered at Bhandewadi Police Station under Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the NDPS Act. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior police officials including Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, with the Bhandewadi police investigation team led by Senior Police Inspector Nitin Charde and PSI Deepak Chalurkar.
