Nagpur: In a shocking incident, an Afghan refugee was brutally assaulted by three individuals in Yadav Nagar, North Nagpur, late Sunday night. The victim, identified as Faheem Khan alias Mamtur Margak, sustained serious injuries after being hit with cement blocks.
According to Yashodhara Nagar police, the attack occurred around 11:30 pm when Faheem had visited the area to negotiate the purchase of a second-hand refrigerator. The address was provided by Nasir Khan, another refugee from Kolkata dealing in used goods.
As Faheem was returning to his car, he was confronted by Ajay Chauhan, Rishi Tambe, and a minor. The trio allegedly hurled communal slurs at him, accusing him of being a terrorist and questioning his presence at that hour. The verbal argument escalated into a violent attack, during which Faheem was assaulted with cement blocks and his vehicle was vandalised.
Locals who recognised Faheem as a regular vendor of household goods intervened and rescued him. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital with head and chest injuries. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused.
Following the incident, Faheem met DCP Zone 5 Niketan Kadam, who ordered immediate action. Ajay Chauhan and Rishi Tambe have been arrested, and the minor has also been taken into custody.
DCP Kadam confirmed that Faheem holds valid refugee documents and has been residing in Tajbagh for several years, selling carpets, pillows, and blankets in the city.
