Nagpur: In a major boost to urban policing, the Maharashtra Home Department has sanctioned the creation of Zone 6 under the Nagpur Police Commissionerate, with Kamptee as its new headquarters. The move comes in light of the city’s growing population, expanding residential zones, and rising crime rates.

The newly formed zone will be headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), with support from two Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) for Kalamna and Pardi divisions. The DCP office will be set up in Kamptee, while Khaparkheda, previously outside city policing limits, has now been officially brought under the Commissionerate’s jurisdiction.

Currently, Nagpur is divided into five police zones. The sixth zone will be carved out of Zone 5, specifically targeting crime-prone and densely populated areas like Kalamna and Pardi. The state government has approved a recurring expenditure of ₹42.13 lakh and a non-recurring expenditure of ₹40.92 lakh to set up infrastructure and operational facilities for Zone 6.

Officials stated that the formation of Zone 6 will ensure faster response to law-and-order issues, better policing in slum clusters, and improved governance in newly urbanised localities.

Khaparkheda Integrated into City Police Jurisdiction

With a large working-class population employed in Koradi Thermal Power Plant and nearby industries, Khaparkheda often faced jurisdictional challenges. Crimes at workplaces were delayed in investigation due to administrative overlaps. The integration aims to streamline policing and eliminate these loopholes, making law enforcement more efficient in the region.
