Nagpur: To accommodate the anticipated heavy rush of devotees and revellers during Vijaya Dashami and Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has announced extended metro operations on Wednesday, October 2.
According to officials, Nagpur Metro trains will run from 5 am to midnight on the day of the twin festivals. The last trains will depart at 12 am simultaneously from all four terminal stations—Khapri, Automotive Square, Lokmanya Nagar and Prajapati Nagar.
Every year, lakhs of followers from across Nagpur and neighbouring areas visit Dikshabhoomi to mark Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, while the city also hosts large-scale Ravan Dahanand Vijaya Dashami celebrations. Key gathering spots include Vidhan Bhavan Square, Nagalok (Kamthi Road) and Dragon Palace (Kamthi), creating intense road traffic. The metro extension aims to ease congestion and encourage citizens to opt for safe, comfortable public transport instead of private vehicles.
Maha Metro highlighted that the service is emerging as the city’s most preferred public transport owing to its affordability, convenience and safety. Passengers will also benefit from the regular 30% fare discount applicable on gazetted holidays.
Authorities have appealed to Nagpur residents to make maximum use of the extended metro hours to ensure a smoother and more eco-friendly festive commute.
