Nagpur: A 23-year-old man allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan following a dispute with his girlfriend in the Kalamna area of Nagpur.

The deceased has been identified as Prem Anil Shukla (23), a resident of Sudhama Ashram area behind Plot No. 129, Bharatwada Road, Ward No. 34, under the jurisdiction of Kalamna police station.

According to police, Prem had been in a relationship with a 20-year-old woman for around four years. The two had reportedly been arguing over the phone as Prem allegedly consumed alcohol and smoked cigarettes.

The deceased’s father, Anil Rajendra Prasad Shukla, who works as a security supervisor, reportedly asked the woman to block Prem’s phone number. She subsequently blocked his number for some time.

Police said that following this, Prem allegedly went into the bedroom and hanged himself from the ceiling fan using a dupatta.

Family members rushed him to Mayo Hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him dead.

Based on the statement of his father, Kalamna police registered an accidental death case (ADR) and initiated further investigation.
