Nagpur: A 23-year-old man has been booked for culpable homicide after his 56-year-old father died of injuries allegedly inflicted with a screwdriver during a domestic dispute over an electricity bill and household expenses in Lakadganj.

The incident occurred on the night of September 16 at Plot No. 501 near Baba Nanak School in the Garoba Maidan area under Lakadganj police station limits.

According to the FIR, the complainant, Mamta Bablu Sahare (45), said her husband, Bablu Sahare (56), a daily wage labourer, had consumed alcohol before an argument broke out at home. The dispute reportedly began over the payment of the electricity bill and allegations that Bablu was not contributing towards household expenses.

Police said the argument escalated when Bablu allegedly grabbed and choked his son, Tushar Bablu Sahare (23). During the ensuing scuffle, Tushar allegedly attacked his father in the abdomen with a screwdriver, leaving him seriously injured.

Bablu was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, September 20.

Following his death, Lakadganj Police booked Tushar under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The case was initially registered at Ajni Police Station before being transferred to Lakadganj Police Station after it was established that the incident had occurred within Lakadganj's jurisdiction.

Police are conducting further investigation into the circumstances leading to the fatal assault.
