Nagpur: A Rapido auto-rickshaw driver has been booked by Pratap Nagar Police for allegedly sending obscene and sexually explicit messages to a 36-year-old woman after she cancelled a ride booked through the Rapido app.

According to the FIR, the woman had booked an auto through the Rapido application on September 19 to travel home. However, the driver, identified as Sahil Chaudhary, allegedly reached a location different from the pickup point shared by the passenger.

Police said an argument broke out between the woman and the driver over the phone after he failed to reach the correct location. Following the dispute, the woman cancelled the ride.

The complainant alleged that Chaudhary subsequently sent her obscene messages through the Rapido app. The messages allegedly contained sexually coloured remarks and comments intended to insult her modesty.

The woman subsequently approached Pratap Nagar Police and lodged a complaint, stating that the messages caused her humiliation.

Based on her complaint, police registered a case against Chaudhary under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 79 and 352.

The auto-rickshaw allegedly used by the accused bears registration number MH-49 CF-0377. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
