Nagpur: Two youths were booked by Sitabuldi Police for allegedly abusing, pushing and obstructing police personnel during a late-night drive to shut shops and other establishments operating beyond permitted hours in Ramdaspeth.

The incident took place around 11.50 pm on September 19 near Badewal Apartment in Ramdaspeth under the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi Police Station.

According to the FIR, police constable Basruddin Ansari, 39, attached to Sitabuldi Police Station, was on night duty as the driver of a CR Mobile patrol vehicle when the Zone-II RTPC control room alerted police about establishments operating in the Ramdaspeth area late at night.

Ansari, along with other police personnel, reached the area and began asking shopkeepers to close their establishments.

Police said the accused, identified as Lokesh Sunil Kulbhale, 23, of Giripeth, Dharampeth, and Gautam Vikram Jaiswami, 23, of the area behind Janata Hospital in Jaripatka, objected to the police action.

According to the complaint, the duo argued with the police and insisted that the shop be allowed to remain open. They allegedly questioned the cops about where they would purchase cigarettes if the shops were shut.

The argument reportedly escalated, with the accused allegedly abusing and pushing police personnel while they were performing their official duties. They also allegedly threatened the officers during the confrontation.

Based on Ansari’s complaint, Sitabuldi Police registered a case against the two youths under Sections 132, 221, 115(2), 351(2), 352 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with other relevant provisions.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
