Nagpur: In a shocking case of animal cruelty in Nagpur, Sakkardara police have booked three individuals after 14 out of 15 cattle brought for illegal slaughter were found dead. The animals were discovered cruelly confined inside a house in the Thakur Plot area, near Meenar Masjid.

The accused have been identified as Sultan Farukh Patel (resident of Thakur Plot), Sheikh Nashir Sheikh Nazir Qureshi (29, Azad Colony), and Javed. During patrolling around 3 pm on Friday, June 6, police received a tip-off about cattle being held in inhumane conditions.

A team reached the house of Sultan Patel, where they found 15 cattle tied up in a congested space. Veterinary officers from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation conducted an inspection and confirmed that 14 cattle had already died due to suspected suffocation or starvation. One surviving animal was rescued and handed over to a local cow protection organization.

Sakkardara police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act. The dead animals were sent for postmortem and later buried at the Bhandewadi dumping ground.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident and are also probing if the accused were part of a larger illegal slaughter network operating in the region.
