“You Sell Ganja?”: Robbers Use Threat to Loot Man at Knifepoint near Ganga-Jamuna in Nagpur, Arrested

Nagpur: In a shocking incident near Ganga-Jamuna under the jurisdiction of Lakadganj Police, two accused allegedly threatened a man by accusing him of selling ganja and then robbed him at knifepoint. The accused were later apprehended by Crime Branch Unit 3, and a total of ₹1.06 lakh worth of stolen property, including the getaway vehicle, was seized.


The incident occurred around 11:40 pm on June 22, when the complainant, Ramesh Vishnu Devangan (34), a resident of Plot No. 59, Kawarapeth, was traveling in his Hyundai car (MH 49 CL 6463) along with ₹55,000 for recovery-related work. He was accompanied by his friend Sachin Rathod (37), a resident of Mhalgi Nagar.


When they halted near the road leading to Balaji Mandir in Ganga-Jamuna, two unidentified men on an Activa approached Devangan. One of the accused confronted him, saying, “Do you supply ganja? I’ll have you arrested.” The duo then brandished a knife and forcefully snatched ₹4,500 cash from the complainant before fleeing the spot.


Based on the complaint, Lakadganj Police registered a case under Sections 309(4) and 3(5) of the BNS.


Taking parallel action, officers and personnel from Crime Branch Unit 3, under the guidance of senior officials, initiated a technical investigation. Acting swiftly, they laid a trap and apprehended the accused — Himanshu Namdev Chinchulkar (25), resident of Om Nagar, Bharatwada Road, Kalamna, and Faizan Anwar Shaikh (24), resident of Ganga-Jamuna, Cement Road, Lakadganj.


Upon interrogation, both confessed to committing the robbery. The police recovered the Activa scooter used in the crime (MH 49 CA 8067), valued at ₹1 lakh, along with ₹6,000 in cash, totaling ₹1.06 lakh in seized items.


The operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar SingalJoint CP Navinchandra ReddyAdditional CP (Crime) Vasant PardeshiDCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil, with the efforts of the Crime Branch Unit 3 team led by Anil Taksande.
