Nagpur: As part of the ongoing “Operation Thunder – Let’s Unite for a Drug-Free Society” campaign led by Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal, Nagpur City Police destroyed narcotics seized in 54 criminal cases under various police station jurisdictions here, on Tuesday, June 24. This action is part of the Anti-Narcotics Awareness Week being observed from June 20 to June 26, ahead of International Anti-Drugs Day on June 26.
The drug disposal drive took place on June 24 at Maharashtra Enviro Ltd., an MPCB-authorized facility located in MIDC Butibori. The destroyed contraband included Mephedrone (MD), Ganja, Charas, and Doda powder, collectively weighing 714.230 kg and valued at approximately ₹1.32 crore. The disposal was conducted in accordance with Narcotics Disposal Committee norms and MPCB guidelines.
To educate the public on the dangers of narcotics, students and youth from schools and colleges were invited to witness the disposal process. Police officials demonstrated the impact of drug abuse on human life and emphasized the importance of a drug-free society.
