Nagpur: In a proactive move to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has completed the cleaning of 227 major drains across the city on Tuesday, June 24. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that low-lying areas do not face flooding due to clogged drainage systems.

On Tuesday, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Urban) Vasumana Pant conducted a field inspection of the ongoing drain cleaning operations. She reviewed the Vikasnagar Nala in the Dharampeth zone and another site in the Laxminagar zone, assessing the effectiveness and progress of the pre-monsoon desilting work.

During the visit, Pant instructed civic officials to implement adequate measures to prevent water accumulation, especially in densely populated localities. She also visited areas that experienced significant waterlogging last year and issued immediate directives to remove obstructions hampering the natural drainage of rainwater.

Officials present during the inspection confirmed that all 227 drains in Nagpur have now been cleaned. The civic administration is placing special emphasis on the quality and efficiency of the cleaning work to ensure smooth rainwater flow throughout the city.

Also present during the inspection were Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Rajesh Bhagat, Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Zonal Officer Tembhekar, along with other municipal officials and staff.

This pre-monsoon preparedness effort reflects the NMC’s commitment to minimizing urban flooding and maintaining public safety during the rainy season.
