Woman Dies After Suffering Burns While Lighting Lamp in Nagpur

Nagpur: A 59-year-old woman succumbed to burn injuries after her saree accidentally caught fire while lighting a lamp at her residence in Wadi.
The incident occurred on January 14, 2026, at a house in Kohale Layout on Khadgaon Road. The deceased, Sushila Phalgun Chatale (59), was lighting an oil lamp in the prayer area of her home when the loose end of her saree came in contact with the flame and caught fire.
She suffered severe burn injuries and was admitted to Padole Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she passed away at around 9:15 am on January 26.
Based on a complaint lodged by Phalgun Tukaram Chatale (73), Wadi Police registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is underway.
