Nagpur: With rising pollution levels and increasing fuel prices, residents are rapidly shifting towards electric vehicles (EVs) in Nagpur district. To support this transition, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Mahavitaran) has developed a robust network of 307 public EV charging stations across the district, significantly boosting the region’s green mobility infrastructure.

This initiative has eased concerns about battery range among EV users and made travel more convenient, marking a major step toward a pollution-free future.

Over 49,000 Electric Vehicles in Nagpur

Nagpur has witnessed a strong surge in eco-friendly transportation, with 49,565 electric vehicles currently on the roads. Recognizing this rapid growth, Mahavitaran has expanded its infrastructure to meet increasing demand.

While EV owners can charge vehicles at home, the need for fast charging during travel or emergencies has led to the establishment of charging stations across urban and rural areas of the district.

Mahavitaran Plays Key Role as Nodal Agency

Under the state government’s EV policy, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited has been appointed as the nodal agency to promote EV adoption.

The government aims to reduce pollution in six major cities, including Nagpur, by encouraging the use of electric vehicles. Mahavitaran is prioritizing electricity connections for EV charging stations and is also providing technical support to private players entering the sector.

Strategic Distribution of Charging Stations

The 307 charging stations are strategically spread across the district:

  • Urban Nagpur
  • Mahal Division – 84 stations
  • Congress Nagar Division – 66 stations
  • Civil Lines Division – 45 stations
  • Butibori Division – 40 stations
  • Gandhibagh Division – 17 stations

  • Rural Nagpur:Mouda – 26 stations
  • Saoner – 16 stations
  • Katol – 7 stations
  • Umred – 6 stations

This widespread network ensures easy access to charging facilities for EV users across the district.

‘PowerUp EV’ App Simplifies Charging

To make EV charging more convenient, Mahavitaran has launched the PowerUp EV mobile application.

Through the app, users can:

  • Locate nearby charging stations
  • View availability in real-time
  • Book charging slots
  • Charge vehicles seamlessly

Big Opportunity for Entrepreneurs

Mahavitaran has simplified the process for setting up EV charging stations, opening new opportunities for:

  • Private companies
  • Petroleum firms
  • Housing societies
  • Individual entrepreneurs

Applications can be submitted a dedicated online platform, and Mahavitaran is providing full technical assistance to encourage participation in this fast-growing sector.

Towards a Greener Future

With strong infrastructure, policy support, and rising public adoption, Nagpur is rapidly moving towards becoming a clean, sustainable, and EV-friendly district, setting an example for other regions in India.
