Nagpur: In a shocking incident highlighting alleged high-handedness by traffic authorities, a traffic police constable posted near Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport has been accused of throwing away the key of a senior citizen’s moped when Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s convoy was passing the interception on Saturday.
According to information circulating on social media, the incident occurred in the vicinity of the airport when the traffic personnel stopped the elderly man’s two-wheeler in a bid to avoid disruption to CM’s convoy. However, in a purported act of misconduct, the constable allegedly removed the ignition key and flung it away, leaving the senior citizen stranded on the roadside.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the elderly man, visibly distressed and in tears, was forced to search for his vehicle key for nearly half an hour before it was finally located. A video capturing portions of the episode has since gone viral, triggering widespread outrage among citizens.
Social media users have condemned the alleged behaviour, terming it insensitive and inappropriate, especially considering the age of the commuter. Several residents have demanded strict disciplinary action against the concerned official and sought greater accountability within the traffic department.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the city traffic police regarding the incident. Further action is awaited.
