Nagpur: A case has been registered at Koradi Police Station after misleading information about Chandrashekhar Bawankule and his family was allegedly circulated on social media, damaging their reputation.
False Claim of 1,147 Acres Exposed
According to the complaint, a video shared widely on Facebook between March 31 and April 3 falsely claimed that Bawankule and his family owned 1,147 acres of land. The video, reportedly circulated by an individual named Rameshwar Darekar, led to widespread misinformation and public confusion.
However, official records have now debunked the claim.
Official Documents Reveal Actual Land Holding
As per a certificate issued by the Tehsildar office in Kamptee, the total land registered in the name of Bawankule and his family is only 28.44 acres, spread across multiple villages and survey numbers. Authorities have confirmed that the viral claim of 1,147 acres is completely false and misleading.
FIR Registered Under BNS 2023
Based on a complaint filed by Nikhil Ramchandra Ingale, police have registered an FIR late on April 3, 2026, under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including Sections 78(1)(ii) and 356(2), which relate to spreading false information and defamation.
Investigation Underway
The investigation has been assigned to Police Inspector Ganesh Dhumal. Authorities are currently probing the origin and spread of the video, as well as identifying those responsible for amplifying the misinformation.
