Tehsil Police Arrest Two from West Bengal for Possessing Counterfeit Currency in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, Tehsil Police arrested two men from West Bengal for allegedly possessing a large number of counterfeit Indian currency notes in Nagpur in the early hours of August 6, 2025.


Based on a tip-off, a patrolling team of Tehsil Police intercepted two suspects near the Guard Line area adjacent to Mayo Hospital between 12:40 am and 12:55 am. The suspects matched the description provided by the informer. The police laid a trap near the Guard Line railway quarters and detained both men.


During interrogation in the presence of panch witnesses, the duo identified themselves asZaminrul Hussain Lokman Sheikh Hussain (27), resident of Kabrej Tola, Sadipur, Malda, West Bengal and Azimtanu Sheikh (29), resident of Dulalganj, Kali Chowk, Malda, West Bengal.


Upon searching their bags, police recovered a plastic polythene containing 243 counterfeit ₹500 notes, which closely resembled genuine Indian currency. Additionally, two mobile phones were seized.


A case has been registered at Tehsil Police Station under Sections 179, 180, and 3(5) of the BNS.. Both accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway.


This action was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (North Region) Rajendra Dabhade, DCP Rahul Madane, and ACP Anita More. The operation team included PI Shubhangi Deshmukh, PI (Crime) Rahul Wadhwe, PSI Sheikh Rasool, and officers Rajesh Thakur, Firoz Khan, Vinod Kature, Pawan Sakharkar, and Sandeep Shirfule.
