Nagpur: Sadar Police in Nagpur rescued 11 bovine animals allegedly confined in cruel conditions for suspected illegal slaughter at Gaddigodam area in the early hours of April 18, 2026.
According to police, at around 1.40am, a patrol team received specific information that cattle had been tied up inside the ground of Lal Shala premises at Gaddigodam.
Acting on the tip-off, police rushed to the location and found 11 cattle packed tightly together in an inhuman manner without food or water. The animals were allegedly being kept for slaughter.
Police said efforts were made to trace the owner of the cattle, but no immediate information was available.
A total of 11 bovine animals valued at approximately Rs 1,95,000 were seized from the spot.
The rescued animals were shifted to a Gaorakshan Centre in Dhantoli, Nagpur for care and protection.
Based on a complaint lodged by police constable Mohansingh Thakur, Sadar Police registered a case against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 (as amended in 1995), Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Maharashtra Police Act.
Further investigation is underway and efforts are on to identify the accused.
