Nagpur Woman Suicide Case: Bajaj Nagar Police Book Live-In Partner for Abetment to Suicide

Nagpur: Bajaj Nagar Police in Nagpur have registered a case of abetment to suicide against a 46-year-old man following the death of a 51-year-old woman who allegedly jumped from the second floor of her residential building after prolonged harassment.


According to police, the deceased, identified as Reshma Shashikant Revatkar (51), had divorced her husband in 2019 due to marital disputes. Since then, she had been residing at Plot No. 202, Suresh Apartment, Tatya Tope Nagar, Bajaj Nagar, Nagpur, along with her friend and accused, Shashank Dnyaneshwar Gajbhiye (46), a resident of Sonbanagar, MHADA Colony, Khadgaon Road, Wadi, Nagpur.


Police said the accused allegedly used to suspect the woman’s character and frequently harassed her. He is also accused of physically assaulting her and subjecting her to continuous mental and emotional torture.


Investigators said that on April 9, 2026, the accused allegedly assaulted the woman again, causing severe distress.


Unable to bear the repeated harassment, Reshma allegedly jumped into the parking area from the second floor of her residence at around 1am on April 10, 2026, resulting in her death.


Initially, Bajaj Nagar Police had registered an accidental death case. However, during the inquiry and based on a complaint lodged by the complainant, police found grounds to register a criminal offence.


Assistant Police Inspector Jayshree Gire of Bajaj Nagar Police Station has registered a case against the accused under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment to suicide.


Further investigation is underway.
