Nagpur: Panic gripped the Sadar police station area on Friday after a shocking discovery near the railway tracks. A bag containing the body of a premature baby was found hidden in bushes under the Itarsi railway bridge, sending shockwaves through the locality.
According to police, the area is largely isolated and accessible only by bike. There are no CCTV cameras nearby, making the investigation challenging.
Sadar police rushed to the scene as soon as they were alerted and cordoned off the site for a detailed inquiry. A forensic team was called in and has sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Preliminary findings suggest the infant’s body is three to four days old. Officials said the baby’s gender will be confirmed only after the autopsy. Investigators are now trying to determine the identity of the child and trace who abandoned the bag and why.
Given the sensitive nature of the case, Sadar police have initiated a thorough investigation from all possible angles.
