Nagpur: Tragedy struck the Khobragade family on Friday morning when their 15-year-old daughter died and their nine-year-old son was seriously injured after their school van collided head-on with an empty Narayan Vidyalaya school bus on Koradi Road. The van driver also died in the crash.
The deceased have been identified as Sanvi Khobragade (15), a Class IX student of Bhavan’s Koradi, and Ritik Kanojiya (24), the van driver and a resident of Sadar. Sanvi’s younger brother Viraj (9) suffered lower-back injuries but is reported to be out of danger.
According to police sources, the Mankapur flyover has been under maintenance for the past two months. On Friday morning the diversion created heavy school and commuter traffic.
Around 8 a.m., the van carrying Bhavan’s students collided head-on with the empty Narayan Vidyalaya bus. Because of the size difference, the van absorbed the brunt of the impact. Kanojiya was driving, with the Khobragade siblings seated beside him, when the collision occurred.
Kanojiya succumbed to his injuries by afternoon, while Sanvi passed away in the evening. The accident has triggered public anger, as locals had repeatedly warned that the flyover’s closure was creating an accident-prone zone. Residents allege that despite their appeals, the administration ignored the issue—resulting in the loss of innocent lives.
