Nagpur: In celebration of Maharashtra Day, the Indian Army opened the historic Sitabuldi Fort to the public on Thursday, May 1, 2025. The event saw an enthusiastic turnout, with over 600 Nagpur residents visiting the fort throughout the day.
The Sitabuldi Fort, a prominent landmark in the heart of Nagpur, holds great historical significance as the site of the 1817 battle between the British forces and the Marathas. On this special occasion, visitors were given guided insights into the fort’s rich heritage and its role in shaping the region’s history.
The initiative allowed citizens to explore the fort’s preserved structures and learn about the valor and legacy associated with the Maratha resistance against colonial forces. It also provided a rare opportunity for locals to engage with the region’s military past in a meaningful and educational manner.
The fort is typically restricted from public access due to its current use by the Indian Army. However, in recent years, the Army has been opening it to the public on select national holidays, drawing significant public interest.
Residents expressed their appreciation for the Army’s efforts in promoting heritage awareness and expressed hope that such opportunities continue in the future.
