Nagpur: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the New Kamptee Police arrested two youths from Madhya Pradesh and seized 21.4 kg of ganja worth ₹2.75 lakh after a brief cinema-style chase on Friday, August 22.
Police said traffic branch officials were on duty at Bus Stand Square, New Kamptee, between 1:54 pm and 4:35 pm, when they signaled two suspicious men riding a Bajaj Pulsar (CG 04 CA 2017) to stop. Instead, the duo sped away, prompting a chase that ended at Kalamna T-Point public road, where they were intercepted.
The suspects were identified as Abhishek Lakhansing Lodhi (21), resident of Subhash Nagar, Vidisha (MP), and Ayush Arvind Sharma (19), resident of Shriram Nagar, Vidisha (MP). A search of their two black school bags led to the recovery of the contraband.
Along with the ganja, police also seized the motorcycle, mobile phones, and bags. During interrogation, the accused revealed they were transporting the narcotics to supply their accomplices — Tariq Parvez, Umesh Ramteke, and Faizan Ansari, all residents of Old Kamptee, Nagpur.
A case was registered at New Kamptee Police Station under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(2)(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act, and the duo was placed under arrest. Further investigation is on.
The operation was executed under the guidance of DCP Niketan Kadam (Zone V) and ACP Vishal Kshirsagar (Kamptee Division) by API Mahesh Andhale, PSI Sachin Yadav, PSI Sandeep Bhitale, and traffic branch staff.
