Nagpur: Two senior citizens died in separate road accidents in Jaripatka and Nandanvan on August 2, prompting police action against the vehicle drivers involved.
Jaripatka Accident
Around 5:45 am, 72-year-old Dayaldas Diwanchand Dhanrajani of Hira Nagar, Jaripatka, was riding his Activa (MH-49 AF-7061) towards Dyanand Park for a morning walk when a speeding Suzuki Access (MH-49 CP-2597) allegedly hit his scooter near Bhim Chowk signal. The rider was reportedly driving rashly and negligently. Dhanrajani suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Based on a complaint from his son, Jaykumar Dhanrajani (39), Jaripatka police registered a case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act against the accused rider.
Nandanvan Accident
At around 8:10 am, 70-year-old Mohammad Bashir Mohammad Wazir of Shesh Nagar, Nandanvan, was on security duty, patrolling on foot near a bridge construction site at Danish Lawn on Hasanbagh Road. A goods truck (MH-49 BZ-1619) allegedly driven at high speed and negligently while taking a U-turn near Moin Car Washing hit him, causing his death on the spot. The driver fled the scene. Based on a complaint from the victim’s brother, Mohammad Yasin Wazir Mohammad (60), Nandanvan police booked the truck driver under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the BNS, and Sections 134, 187, and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police said further investigation is underway in both cases.
