Nagpur: Gittikhadan police have booked the admin of the popular Instagram account “Hey Bawa Nagpur”, along with a man and a woman, for allegedly obstructing a traffic police officer’s duty, using abusive language, and posting a defamatory video online without verifying facts.

The incident took place on August 1, 2025, when Traffic Inspector Suhas Chaudhary of Sadar Division was on duty in his office. At around 1:25 pm, a woman approached him seeking the release of her two-wheeler (MH-49 BT-7697) that had been towed from a no-parking zone. She cited urgent travel requirements, and considering her repeated requests, Chaudhary instructed Prashant Meshram, a private employee of VIPL—the city’s towing contractor—to issue a challan but release the vehicle without collecting the fine.

Soon after, Chaudhary heard loud arguments outside. Stepping out, he saw a man accompanying the woman arguing with Meshram over why a private employee possessed a challan machine. Despite being informed that the device belonged to the contractor, the man remained unsatisfied, began filming a video, and allegedly hurled derogatory abuses at the police. Both he and the woman reportedly created a commotion, obstructing official work, before leaving with the vehicle.

Later that afternoon, Chaudhary discovered that the man, identified as Vinod Kalyani of Hansapuri, had uploaded the video to “Hey Bawa Nagpur” Instagram, allegedly tarnishing the police department’s image.

Police have registered a case under Sections 296, 221, 256(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67 of the IT Act. An investigation is underway to determine the intent and wider implications of the post.
