Nagpur: In a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, Nagpur City Police, under the leadership of Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singal, launched “Operation Thunder” as part of their broader “Drugs-Free Nagpur” campaign. The operation aims to curb drug trafficking, possession, and consumption within the city, reflecting the police’s commitment to making Nagpur a safer and drug-free community.
The initiative, which took place on October 17, 2024, from midnight to 6 a.m., involved a coordinated effort by senior police officials and officers from various units of the Nagpur City Police. The operation specifically targeted individuals involved in drug-related crimes between 2020 and 2024.
Teams were formed from police stations and crime branch units to track down and investigate offenders previously booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These teams conducted home searches, scrutinized records, and checked the whereabouts of suspects. Some suspects were found to be deceased, some were incarcerated, and others had either left town or vacated their residences. To continue the pursuit, special teams have been set up to locate these absconding individuals.
During the operation, a total of 153 individuals connected to drug offenses were detained and brought to the Nagpur City Crime Branch office for further investigation. Officers checked their mobile phones to identify any possible criminal networks or links. Preventive measures were taken against them, and their details were thoroughly updated in the police database.
The entire operation was in line with Commissioner Singhal’s vision of transforming Nagpur into a drug-free city. With the updated information, authorities now have a comprehensive database on these offenders, enabling quicker access to their criminal history in case of future offenses.
