Nagpur: In a major crackdown on illegal cattle transportation, the Koradi Police apprehended four individuals on May 21, Wednesday, for cruelly transporting bovine animals intended for slaughter without valid permits. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted four pickup vehicles near Gate No. 660 of the New Power Plant area.
During the inspection, police recovered a total of 22 live bovine animals crammed into the vehicles without food or water. The accused—identified as Ramkishor Chainsingh Gonekar (33), Ramsingh Ghasiram Yadav (25), Amale Chintaman Pudke (28), and Ankit Ramchandra Pahade (23)—hail from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
All four were unable to produce any documentation for transporting cattle. The seized assets include 22 bovine animals valued at ₹3.4 lakh and four pickup vehicles estimated at ₹19.4 lakh.
Based on a complaint by Police Constable Yogesh Wanjari, an FIR was registered under IPC Section 291, Section 3(5) of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, and Sections 11(1)(D), 11(1)(E) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
