Nagpur: In a shocking case of personal vendetta, the Nagpur Crime Branch’s Unit 2 arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly planting MD drugs on a woman’s scooter in an attempt to falsely implicate her in a narcotics case.

According to police, the Crime Branch has been intensifying its crackdown against drug peddlers, possessors and consumers across the city. Acting on a tip-off, officers conducted a raid around 9.10 pm on June 28 at Sahil Complex in Tawakkal Layout on Katol Bypass Road under the Wadi police station limits.

During the operation, police found two zip-lock pouches containing 8.9 grams of MD powder hidden beneath the footrest of a black moped parked at the spot.

When questioned, the owner of the scooter, a woman, denied ownership of the contraband and claimed that someone had deliberately placed the drugs under her vehicle’s footrest. She requested police to examine nearby CCTV footage.

Upon reviewing CCTV recordings from the area, police found that the suspect who had provided information about the incident, identified as Gopal Kisan Zodage (37), a resident of Parishram Colony on Narsala Road in Mhalgi Nagar, had himself placed the MD powder beneath the woman’s scooter.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that he had a personal dispute with the woman and intended to frame her in a false narcotics case by misleading the police.

Police arrested the accused and seized the MD powder, a mobile phone and the moped, collectively valued at around Rs 85,000.

A case has been registered at Wadi Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Deepak Agrawal and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Shivprasad Parve.
