Crime Branch Recovered Activa Stolen from Biryani Centre; 28-Year-Old Arrested

Nagpur: The Nagpur Crime Branch’s Unit 3 has cracked a vehicle theft case and arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly stealing an Activa scooter from the Tehsil police station area.


Police said the complainant, Nitin Damodar Meshram (39), a resident of Garoba Maidan near Hanuman Mandir Chowk in Chapru Nagar, Lakadganj, had parked and locked his Activa scooter (MH-49-BN-4735), valued at Rs 25,000, on a public road outside KGN Hotel at Hansapuri Khadan on the night of June 26 before going to a nearby biryani centre.


When he returned, he discovered that an unidentified thief had stolen the vehicle.


Based on his complaint, Tehsil Police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unknown accused.


During the parallel investigation, officers of Crime Branch Unit 3 carried out technical surveillance and acted on specific information to detain Gunjan alias Chintu Vishwajit Khomne (28), a resident of Ganjakhet, Jyotinagar Khadan in Tehsil, Nagpur.


During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to stealing the scooter. Police subsequently arrested him and recovered the stolen Activa worth Rs 25,000 from his possession.


The accused and the recovered vehicle have been handed over to Tehsil Police for further legal action, and further investigation is in progress.


The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Deepak Agrawal and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Shivprasad Parve, along with Police Inspector Atul Mohankar and his team.
