Nagpur: A dispute following a woman’s medically advised abortion allegedly escalated into a violent assault on a 35-year-old grocery shop owner from Nandanvan and his 60-year-old mother in Nagpur.

According to police, the complainant’s wife was pregnant and underwent a medically advised abortion after doctors found that the unborn baby’s head was not developing properly. Following the procedure, the woman had been staying with her parents in Daryapur, Amravati district.

Police said the complainant, who runs a grocery store and was occupied with work, could not visit his wife in Daryapur. This reportedly led to tensions between the two families.

On June 28, four relatives of the complainant’s wife allegedly arrived at his residence in the Nandanvan area and assaulted him. Two of the accused allegedly attacked the man on the head with iron rods and abused him, causing injuries. The other two allegedly assaulted his 60-year-old mother by punching and beating her.

Both the injured man and his mother were admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (Medical Hospital) for treatment.

Based on the complaint, Nandanvan Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
