Nagpur: The Nagpur Crime Branch’s Unit 2 has arrested a 32-year-old man and seized more than 2 kg of ganja along with weighing equipment and packaging materials during a raid in the Dhantoli area.
Acting on specific intelligence, officers of Crime Branch Unit 2 conducted a search between 11:45 am and 3:25 pm on July 22 at a rented house in Saraswati Nagar, Takiya, Dhantoli. During the search, police recovered 2.069 kg of ganja from the possession of the accused.
The arrested accused has been identified as Asif Arif Khan (32), who was residing as a tenant at the premises.
Police also seized a digital weighing scale, plastic pouches, a sealing machine, a mobile phone, and the ganja, with the total value of the seized property estimated at ₹56,380.
During interrogation, Asif allegedly disclosed that he had procured the contraband in connivance with his associate, Shailesh Sonatakke (30), who is currently absconding.
Investigators said the accused was storing the ganja for sale to earn illegal profits.
A case has been registered at Dhantoli Police Station under Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Asif Khan has been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the absconding co-accused.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, DCP (Detection) Deepak Agrawal, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Vaibhav Patil, by a team led by Senior Police Inspector Shubhangi Deshmukh.
