Nagpur: In a heart-wrenching incident that raises questions about humanity, a 31-year-old woman died on the spot after being hit by a speeding truck on the Nagpur–Jabalpur National Highway near Morfata on Sunday, August 10. With no one stopping to help despite heavy traffic and pouring rain, her grief-stricken husband tied her lifeless body to his motorcycle and attempted to take her home.

The deceased, identified as Gyarasi Amit Yadav, was a native of Karanpur, Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh, and had been residing in Lonara near Koradi with her husband, Amit Bhura Yadav (35), for the past 10 years. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the couple was travelling from Lonara to Karanpur via Deolapar on their motorcycle (MH-40/DB-1983).

Around 3:30 pm, while passing through Morfata in Deolapar Police Station limits, a speeding Eicher truck approached from behind, brushed past their bike, and knocked Gyarasi under its wheels. She died instantly.

As rain poured and vehicles passed by, Amit pleaded with passing motorists to stop and help, but no one came forward. Left with no choice, he tied her body to the rear seat of the bike and headed towards Koradi.

Highway police, informed of the incident, attempted to intercept him. However, Amit, panicked and overwhelmed, did not stop until officers finally managed to halt him. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem at Nagpur’s Mayo Hospital.

Koradi Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Shendkar said that the case has been transferred to Deolapar Police for further investigation.
