Nagpur: In a swift operation, Crime Branch Unit 5 police arrested a history-sheeter for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition in Yashodharanagar. The action took place between 8:53 pm and 10:31 pm on August 12, 2025, during routine patrolling in the Yashodharanagar police station limits.
According to officials, the team received a tip-off that a known criminal, identified as Mohammad Imran Mohammad Qamar Ansari (30), a resident of Plot No. 462, Pilinadi, Sangharsh Nagar, Yashodharanagar, was in possession of a firearm. Acting on the information, police laid a trap and detained the accused. During interrogation, he gave evasive answers, prompting officers to conduct a search of his residence in the presence of panch witnesses.
The search led to the recovery of a deadly firearm with a magazine, one live cartridge, and a mobile phone, all valued at approximately ₹63,000. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused was carrying the weapon with the intent to commit a cognizable offence, thereby violating prohibitory orders.
A case under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act, read with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, has been registered at Yashodharanagar Police Station. The accused has been handed over to local police along with the seized property for further investigation.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Joint CP Navin Chandr Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil. The team comprised PI Sandeep Buwa, PSI Rahul Rote, and other police personnel.
