NAGPUR: A municipal garbage collection worker was allegedly abused and assaulted by two occupants of a white Mahindra Bolero Neo after a dispute over the foul smell emanating from his garbage collection vehicle near the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Dhantoli on October 21.

The complainant, Sanjay Keshav Khandekar (37), a resident of Pawan Shakti Nagar in Wathoda, works as a driver for Anthony Waste Handling Cell Limited, which collects garbage for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Hanuman Nagar Zone.

According to the police complaint, the incident took place around 5.30 am when Khandekar was on duty with his garbage collection vehicle near the FCI godown. The driver of a white Bolero Neo and his companion allegedly objected to the foul smell coming from the garbage vehicle and hurled obscene abuses at him, including derogatory remarks about his mother and sister.

When Khandekar objected to the abusive language, one of the accused allegedly took out a bamboo stick from the vehicle and assaulted him, striking both his wrists. The accused also allegedly smashed the glass of the garbage collection vehicle, causing damage.

Both men fled the spot after the assault. Based on Khandekar’s complaint, Dhantoli police registered a case against the unidentified Bolero Neo driver and his companion under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
