Nagpur: With the 2026 Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections approaching, election activity across the city has taken on a festive tone as New Year’s Eve becomes an informal platform for voter outreach. Following the finalisation of candidates by major political parties, several aspiring corporators have begun engaging residents through celebrations timed with the year-end festivities.
In many wards, New Year gatherings are being used to create a connect with voters in a relaxed and celebratory environment. Some aspirants are sponsoring party passes at hotels, clubs and popular roadside venues, while others are opting for community-level celebrations such as neighbourhood bonfires, shared meals and small local events. Music, food and refreshments have emerged as common features of these gatherings, adding to the festive appeal.
Residents in several areas have welcomed the convergence of the election season with New Year celebrations, describing it as an unexpected but enjoyable development. The atmosphere in many neighbourhoods reflects a mix of civic anticipation and holiday cheer, with voters participating actively in local events.
Observers note that such festive outreach is a familiar grassroots strategy, particularly in wards expected to witness close contests. These initiatives are aimed at building visibility and goodwill well ahead of polling day.
The NMC elections are scheduled for January 15, with counting set for January 16. The last date for filing nominations is Tuesday, while January 2 has been fixed as the deadline for withdrawal of candidature.
