The initiative aims to strengthen emergency medical and trauma care services at hospitals located along high-risk corridors with a history of road crash fatalities.
Nagpur, 30 December 2025: In a major step towards strengthening emergency medical care and trauma care services along high-risk corridors with a history of fatal road crashes, SaveLIFE Foundation, in a CSR partnership with Parle Biscuits Pvt. Ltd., with support from the Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra, handed over critical surgical equipment at Umred Rural Hospital and Trauma Care Unit, located on NH-353D (Umred–Bhiwapur Road), and Deolapar Rural Hospital, located on NH-44 (Nagpur–Deolapar Road), in Nagpur Rural district.
Dr. Prabhakar Wanjari, Medical Superintendent, Umred Rural Hospital, and Dr. Sanjay Meshram, Medical Superintendent, Deolapar Rural Hospital, attended the respective events, along with representatives of SaveLIFE Foundation.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Prabhakar Wanjari, Medical Superintendent, Umred Rural Hospital, said, “As timely intervention is crucial in road crash injuries, the addition of this surgical equipment will significantly enhance Umred Rural Hospital’s ability to respond to emergency trauma cases.”
Dr. Sanjay Meshram, Medical Superintendent, Deolapar Rural Hospital, highlighted, “This support strengthens our hospital’s emergency preparedness and will directly benefit patients injured in road crashes on NH-44. We appreciate the efforts of SaveLIFE Foundation and Parle Biscuits Pvt. Ltd. in reinforcing trauma care services at the rural level.
NH-353D and NH-44 are known for high traffic movement and increased vulnerability to serious road crashes. Between January-November 2025, NH-44 registered a 104% year-on-year increase in road crash fatalities, from 24 in 2024 to 49 in 2025. Meanwhile, NH-353D registered a 10% year-on-year decline, from 30 fatalities in 2024 to 27 in 2025. Overall, high-fatality corridors in Nagpur Rural registered a 7.3% year-on-year increase in road crash fatalities, from 233 between January-November 2024 to 250 during the same period this year. By equipping rural hospitals with essential surgical and emergency care equipment, the initiative seeks to improve trauma care readiness and reduce preventable deaths and serious injuries caused by road crashes.
Supported by Parle Biscuits Pvt. Ltd. under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, the Zero Fatality Corridor Programme focuses on transforming high-risk highways into safer corridors through advanced crash data analysis, community engagement, improved trauma care, and capacity building.
The initiative of providing critical surgical equipment to Umred Rural Hospital and Deolapar Rural Hospital will ensure trauma care readiness and timely treatment of road crash victims. This intervention under the Zero Fatality Corridor Programme is a step towards reducing preventable casualties and building a more responsive emergency care system.
Speaking about the intervention, Dr. Eilia Jafar, Chief of Programs, SaveLIFE Foundation, said, “Unavailability of specialised trauma care facilities closer to crash sites is a major cause of road crash fatalities.
