Nagpur: In a swift and coordinated operation, the Crime Branch Unit 5 of Nagpur Police arrested a man posing as an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and recovered forged government identification documents along with a vehicle worth ₹3.25 lakh.

The complainant, Hasdissinh Parvindersingh Bhatia (43), a resident of Gurunanakpura in Pachpaoli and a transport businessman, also manages The Palm Green Lawn on Kamptee Road with his father. On January 27, 2026, around 6 pm, Bhatia received a phone call from a man claiming to be a police inspector from Butibori. The caller alleged that his stolen vehicle was parked outside Bhatia’s lawn and introduced himself as Prahlad Sinha.

When the man arrived, Bhatia grew suspicious during questioning. The suspect then claimed to be an officer of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and displayed what appeared to be an official identity card. Shortly afterward, he left the spot in a Tata Tiago (DL-10-CT-6256).

Sensing foul play, Bhatia immediately alerted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Maknikar. Acting on the tip-off, Crime Branch Unit 5 launched a technical investigation and tracked the suspect’s vehicle. With assistance from Butibori Police, the accused was intercepted and detained at Satgaon in Butibori.

During questioning in the presence of witnesses, the accused identified himself as Prahlad Dilipkumar Sinha (25), a resident of Satgaon, Butibori. A personal search led to the seizure of a forged Government of India ID card bearing the logo of the National Investigation Agency, along with Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, and a mobile phone.

Police seized the fake documents and the vehicle, collectively valued at ₹3.25 lakh. The accused was allegedly impersonating a public servant using forged credentials.

Based on the complaint, Yashodhara Nagar Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and placed the accused under arrest. Further investigation is underway.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, and ACP Narendra Hivare, along with Police Inspector Vinayak Golhe and the Crime Branch Unit 5 team.
