Nagpur: Acting swiftly on a complaint, the Shantinagar Police arrested a 38-year-old man for demanding extortion money and threatening to kill a shopkeeper at Shantinagar Ghat Chowk.
Complainant Sandeep Shankarlal Mehar (42), owner of Shankar General Stores, stated that on October 20, 2025, between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., the accused Pradeep Durvasing Thapa, a resident of Shantinagar Ghat Chowk, entered his shop and threatened him saying, “If you want to run your shop here, you must pay me ₹20,000 per month, or I will kill you.”
Thapa also hurled abuses, threatened nearby shopkeepers, and forcibly took a packet of sweets and firecrackers worth ₹4,000 from a neighbouring shop owned by Raju Sharma.
Following the complaint, Sub-Inspector Geeta Raskar registered a case under Sections 308(3), 308(5), and 296 of the BNS. The police launched an immediate manhunt and arrested Pradeep Thapa within hours. Further investigation is underway.
