Nagpur: In a preventive policing initiative aimed at reducing crime and encouraging rehabilitation, the Nagpur City Police convened a meeting of habitual offenders across multiple police station jurisdictions under Zone (Parimandal) No. 5 and issued a strict warning against future criminal activities here on Thursday.
The drive was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nityanand Jha, Zone 5, Nagpur City, on June 11.
As part of the exercise, habitual offenders registered with Yashodhara Nagar, Kalamna, Pardi, Wathoda and Bhandewadi police stations were summoned collectively to review their present activities and sources of livelihood and to discourage them from returning to crime.
Offenders from Yashodhara Nagar and Kalamna police stations were called to Yashodhara Nagar Police Station, while those from Wathoda, Pardi and Bhandewadi police stations were assembled at Pardi Police Station.
According to police, a total of 134 habitual offenders attended the counselling and monitoring exercise. Police station-wise attendance included:
- Yashodhara Nagar – 12
- Kalamna – 60
- Pardi – 16
- Wathoda – 8
- Bhandewadi – 38
Total – 134
During the interaction, DCP Jha issued clear instructions that no offender should engage in any criminal activity in the future.
Police warned that if anyone disturbs public peace and order, stringent legal action would be taken under laws including MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act), MPDA (Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act), and externment provisions.
Authorities also assured support to those willing to abandon criminal activities and reintegrate into mainstream society. At the same time, repeat offenders were cautioned that strict legal action would follow.
Police further declared that activities such as extortion, intimidation, illegal businesses, offences against persons, and property-related crimes would not be tolerated within Zone 5 limits.
The operation was conducted in the presence of ACP Rohit Owhad (Kalamna Division and Pardi Division), Senior Police Inspectors of Yashodhara Nagar, Kalamna, Pardi, Bhandewadi and Wathoda police stations, along with investigation teams.
Police officials reiterated that maintaining peace and law and order in Nagpur remains a priority and conveyed a strong message to offenders to choose lawful livelihoods or face intensified legal action.
