Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch Unit 2 of Nagpur Police arrested a 33-year-old burglar involved in multiple house-breaking incidents and recovered stolen valuables worth over ₹7.04 lakh, including gold ornaments, diamond-studded rings, an imported watch, and cash.
The Incident
On September 5, 2025, between 4.30 pm and 9.00 pm, complainant Sandhya Jitendra Thakur (40), a resident of Samadhan Nagar, Police Line Takli, had locked her first-floor house and was sitting downstairs with her in-laws when an unidentified thief entered her house. The accused opened the latch of the main door, accessed the bedroom, and used a duplicate key to open a locker. He fled with ₹50,000 in cash and gold jewellery weighing 142 grams, with the total stolen property valued at ₹6.18 lakh.
Based on Thakur’s complaint, Gittikhadan Police registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC against an unknown person.
The Arrest
During parallel investigation, the Crime Branch Unit 2 team carried out technical analysis and intelligence-based operations. Acting on a tip-off, police detained the accused, identified as Mohammed Osama Rafiq Patka (33), a resident of Swagat Nagar, Gittikhadan. During interrogation, he confessed to the burglary at Samadhan Nagar.
On further questioning, Patka admitted to committing two more house-breaking offences in the Sadar police station area on September 6, 2025, including thefts near Manoj Bhavan, Azad Chowk.
Recovery of Stolen Property
Police seized the following items from the accused’s possession:
• Cash amounting to ₹69,820
• Gold ornaments including mangalsutra, necklaces, bangles, and earrings weighing 142 grams
• Diamond-studded rings
• An imported wristwatch
The recovered property is valued at ₹7,04,882 in total. The accused, along with the seized items, has been handed over to Gittikhadan Police for further investigation.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Paradeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil. The team comprised PI Mahesh Sagle, API Gajanan Chambhare, constables Rajesh Tiwari, Mahendra Sadmake, Shailesh Jambhulkar, Pravin Shelke, and others.
