Nagpur: A 92-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and robbed of two gold chains and ₹3,900 in cash at his residence in Parvati Nagar under Ajni police station limits in the early hours of Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Bapurao Sadashiv Kumbhare (92), was at his residence in Rammeshwari when the incident occurred around 1.30 am on September 17, according to the police complaint.
Police said the accused, identified as Aryan Dhiraj Gaikwad, who allegedly lives on rent at the house of Kumbhare’s daughter in Rammeshwari, arrived at the victim’s residence along with an unidentified accomplice.
Gaikwad allegedly asked Kumbhare for ₹20. When the elderly man refused to give him the money, both accused allegedly assaulted him with fists and forcibly snatched his two gold chains.
The chains, weighing around 12 grams each, were collectively valued at approximately ₹60,000. The accused also allegedly took ₹3,900 in cash, taking the total value of the stolen property to ₹63,900.
Based on Kumbhare’s complaint, Ajni police registered a case against Gaikwad and the unidentified accused under the relevant provisions mentioned in the police record. Police said Gaikwad has no previous criminal record.
Further investigation is underway to identify the second accused and recover the stolen property.
