Nagpur: In a significant move to maintain law and order and curb serious crimes, the Nagpur Police have taken strict preventive action against habitual offenders across the city in 2026. The action was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2), Nityanand Jha, as part of an ongoing effort to deter repeat criminal activities.
According to officials, a total of six habitual offenders from different police station jurisdictions in Nagpur have been externed under Section 56 (1) (A) and (B) of the Maharashtra Police Act. These externment orders, issued between March 30 and April 15, 2026, bar the accused from entering Nagpur city and, in some cases, the entire district for a specified period.
The externed individuals include offenders from the jurisdictions of Mankapur Police Station, Gittikhadan Police Station, and Ambazari Police Station. These accused, aged between 21 and 38 years, have multiple serious criminal cases registered against them, ranging from two to nine offences each. Depending on the severity of their criminal history, they have been externed for periods ranging from three months to one year.
In addition to externment, the police have also taken action under the stringent MPDA (Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities) Act against two notorious offenders. One accused from the Ambazari area and another from the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi Police Station have been detained following approval from the Police Commissioner. This action aims to prevent them from engaging in further criminal activities.
Senior officials, including Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, and Additional Commissioner Rajendra Dabhade, have directed and supported the operation. Police officials stated that such action will continue in the future to ensure public safety, reduce crime rates, and keep habitual offenders in check across Nagpur.
The Nagpur Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security, warning that strict action will be taken against individuals involved in repeated criminal activities.
