NAGPUR: A neighbourhood dispute over alleged rumours about two young men escalated into a violent clash in the Shafi Nagar area under Mankapur police station limits on October 28, leaving a 34-year-old woman seriously injured and three others targeted in the attack.
According to police inputs, the accused Wakil Nabi Hussain (35), Akil Nabi Hussain (40), Mohammad Sakir (19) and the complainant, Afroz Sheikh, 34, lived in the same locality. A few days earlier, a dispute had reportedly erupted after the accused allegedly spread rumours about Afroz’s sons, Sameer and Akram.
On October 28, Afroz allegedly questioned the accused over the rumours concerning her sons. This led to another confrontation, during which the accused allegedly acted in concert and abused Afroz and her two sons.
During the altercation, the first accused allegedly brought an iron crowbar from his house and handed it to the second accused. The latter allegedly attempted to attack Afroz’s sons with the weapon. When Afroz intervened to protect them, she was allegedly struck on the head with the iron crowbar, leaving her seriously injured.
A local resident, Banti Gomaji Ingle, 26, reportedly intervened to break up the fight. However, the first accused allegedly attacked him with a small knife, injuring him as well.
The injured were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), also known as Medical Hospital, in Nagpur, for treatment.
Based on Afroz’s complaint, Mankapur police registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
