Nagpur: Nagpur Police have taken swift action against three men who allegedly harassed a female influencer and her friends near Gaddigodam Square on the night of May 14.
The Nagpur Traffic Police, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Archit Chandak, worked in coordination with Sadar Police led by Senior Police Inspector Manish Thakare to identify the accused, who were caught on camera behaving inappropriately with the women riders. The incident came to light after the influencer shared a video of the harassment on social media, which quickly went viral and drew widespread public outrage.
Following the viral video, a joint operation was launched, and the accused — Shehzad Sheikh, Kartik Satpute, and Aniket Gajbhiye — were traced and identified.
According to sources, after the video surfaced, the accused reportedly sought forgiveness and even sent one of their sisters to the victim’s house in an attempt to pacify the situation. However, the victim was unable to meet her as she was appearing for an important examination. Subsequently, based on the victim’s formal complaint filed on May 14, the Sadar Police registered a case and apprehended the accused on the morning of Friday, May 16.
An FIR has been registered at the Sadar Police Station under relevant sections for stalking and obstructing the way of the victims. The police have assured strict action in the case and reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of women on city roads.
The incident has once again raised concerns over women’s safety in public spaces and the increasing need for vigilant policing in busy urban areas like Nagpur.
