Nagpur: A six-year-old girl died after falling from the second-floor slab of an under-construction building in the Imamwada area of Nagpur on Thursday, police said.

The tragic incident occurred around 10.30 am on May 15 under the jurisdiction of Imamwada Police Station near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk.

According to police, Sushma Manoj Neware, who worked as a labourer at the construction site owned by Sachin Vasantrao Gudghe, had stayed at the site with her six-year-old daughter Rashi Neware as work was suspended for the day.

Police said the mother and daughter were sleeping on the second-floor slab, where no parapet wall had been constructed. Instead, a rope had been tied around the open edge as a temporary safety measure.

After waking up, the child reportedly started playing near the rope. The rope suddenly snapped, causing her to lose balance and fall from the slab. She sustained severe head injuries in the fall.

The injured girl was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment at around 2.15 pm.

Based on medical intimation, API Swati Mali of Imamwada Police registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is underway.
