Nagpur: An unidentified burglar stole cash and gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 2.45 lakh from a house in the Pratap Nagar area after allegedly entering through an unlocked door while the homeowner had stepped out for medical treatment.
According to police, the theft took place between 4 pm and 7 pm on May 15 under the jurisdiction of Pratap Nagar Police Station.
Complainant Ratnamala Dharmadas Meshram (60), a resident of Kamgar Colony near Pragnyashil Buddha Vihar in Subhash Nagar, had reportedly left the house after loosely shutting the door while taking her daughter to Dr Padole Hospital for treatment.
Police said the unidentified accused entered the house through the open door, used a key kept inside to unlock a steel cupboard and escaped with Rs 1.05 lakh in cash along with gold ornaments.
Based on the victim’s complaint, PSI Sainath Kakarwal of Pratap Nagar Police registered a case against the unidentified accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have launched a search operation and further investigation is in progress.
