NAGPUR: A 60-year-old retired railway officer from Ram Nagar in Nagpur was allegedly cheated of ₹32.82 lakh by a cyber fraudster who impersonated a railway official and duped him on the pretext of updating his medical card.

The victim, a resident of Telangkhedi, Amravati Road, had retired from the Railway Department on October 31, 2026, as an Assistant Executive Officer. According to the complaint, between November 2 and 4, an unidentified accused contacted him over the phone and falsely claimed to be a railway officer.

The fraudster gained the victim’s confidence by claiming that his Umeed medical card needed to be updated. On this pretext, the accused obtained documents belonging to the victim and his family members and instructed him to complete various procedures on his mobile phone.

Taking advantage of the victim’s trust, the fraudster allegedly transferred ₹32,82,150 from his Bank of Maharashtra account to multiple bank accounts.

After discovering the fraudulent transactions, the retired officer approached the Cyber Police and lodged a complaint on November 5.

Cyber Police registered a case under Sections 204, 340(2), 336(3), 319(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act.
