Nagpur: In a serious law-and-order incident amid the ongoing Winter Session in Nagpur, miscreants carried out a repeat attack on Urvashi Bar in Pratap Nagar, leaving the bar owner and his son injured. The violent incident, which occurred just a day after an earlier act of vandalism at the same establishment, has triggered panic in the locality and raised concerns over public safety.
According to police, the first incident took place on the night of December 11 after liquor was allegedly not served at a table, leading to ruckus inside the bar and injuries to waiter Dharmendra Yadav. Pratap Nagar police registered a case soon after the incident.
However, on December 12 at around 11.30 pm, the prime accused, identified as Aniket Shendre, along with eight to nine accomplices, allegedly returned to the bar. Armed with knives and swords, the accused abused bar operator Atul Rai and his son Yash, vandalised the premises by smashing liquor bottles and glassware, and assaulted the father-son duo. The attackers allegedly robbed ₹26,000 cash from the counter and snatched a mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
Pratap Nagar Police Inspector Pankaj Bodse said that a case of dacoity has been registered in connection with the incident. Police have arrested three accused—Aditya Metangade (20), Krish Madavi (20) and Pravan Metangade (19), all residents of Subhash Nagar—while efforts are on to nab the remaining suspects.
Taking a stern view of the repeated acts of violence, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) S Rushikesh Reddy said police are initiating action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused. “All the accused involved in the incident have been identified, and strict legal action will follow,” the DCP said.
Police have intensified patrols in the area and assured that stringent measures will be taken to prevent such incidents and maintain law and order in the city.
