Nagpur: A record approximately 45,000 people visited the historic Sitabuldi Fort in Nagpur on August 15, 2026, as the fort was opened exclusively to Indian nationals on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day.

Located within the Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub-Area Complex, the iconic fort attracted visitors from Nagpur and surrounding areas throughout the day. The massive turnout marked a significant rise compared with the previous Republic Day opening on January 26, 2026, when around 27,256 visitors had visited the fort.

The sharp increase in footfall highlights the growing public interest in Nagpur’s military heritage and the historic significance of Sitabuldi Fort, situated in the heart of the city. The fort remains an important heritage and tourist attraction, associated with the region’s Maratha legacy and its later British-era history.

Visitors appreciated the arrangements and hospitality extended by Army personnel, who managed the large gathering despite their routine operational responsibilities. National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadetsconducted guided tours, offering visitors an opportunity to learn more about the historic site.

The patriotic atmosphere was further enhanced by the playing of patriotic songs along the designated heritage route. Large crowds gathered to enjoy the music, with several visitors joining in spontaneous dancing and celebrations.

Comprehensive arrangements were made to ensure the safety and convenience of visitors. Drinking water and refreshments were made available, while medical facilities and ambulances were stationed at both the entrance and exit points.

Crowd management from the Railway Gate towards Sitabuldi Fort and inside the fort complex was handled by the Nagpur Police in coordination with the Military Police, ensuring the event proceeded smoothly despite the unprecedented footfall.
