Nonthaburi, Thailand: At least eight people were killed and more than 10 others injured in a shooting at a high school in Bang Kruai district, Nonthaburi province, on Friday. The suspected shooter, identified by police as a teenage student, also died following the incident.

According to Thai authorities, the victims include several teachers. Officials also said the suspect had allegedly killed his grandparents before arriving at the school. Their bodies were later found at their residence.

Police identified the suspected gunman as a ninth grade student, who is believed to have been around 14 years old. Authorities have not yet confirmed a motive for the attack.

The Public Health Minister said that many of the injured students were hurt while attempting to flee the campus rather than by gunfire. Initial reports indicated that 10 to 15 people sustained injuries during the incident.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and images from the school showed ambulances treating victims while students were evacuated from the campus.

The school, Debsirin Nonthaburi School, had approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the previous academic year, according to district authorities.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Authorities are also examining reports regarding the suspect's death, with some initial accounts suggesting suicide, while others indicated police involvement. Officials have not yet issued a final confirmation on this aspect.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to concerns over gun violence in Thailand, which has one of the highest rates of civilian firearm ownership in Southeast Asia. The incident follows several recent shootings that have renewed calls for stricter firearm regulations in the country.
